Vagrus - The Riven Realms free Mac Game

The game is in Early Access so to state the obvious it is not finished yet but what there is right now in the game is awesome and it is definitely an ambitious title with a lot of potential and ground to cover.

I do believe it's worth the time if you're into rich lore and have the will to delve into it as long as you have the patience to read through the narrative bits.

The game does have a certain Choose Your Own Adventure thing going on so skipping through the story would be a real shame.

The one thing that may be disputable from a purely game design perspective is the overly complicated systems at work with many different parameters that are supposed to have an incidence on the game but which come across as pretty obscure since when you start out you have no frame of reference and no idea what these actually do.

Sure, that could be said of many RPGs but most of them rely on existing pen and paper systems that are well known (or use simplistic rule sets).

Getting into a D&D computer game feels easy because we've had years to get familiar with the different D&D rule sets. The problem is that it's simply a luxury we don't have with Vagrus. 

Here we've got a point buy system with Leadership perks, Professions and Attributes but starting out it all feels like a guessing game in which you go by trial and error and end up picking what sounds best to you in the hope that you're not wasting your points and making things needlessly hard.

In all fairness the devs did post a disclaimer to state that it is not the sort of game that will hold your hand and that it is meant to be a difficult and demanding title.
